Hanford Solid Waste Environmental Impact Statement
Date:
Friday, December 13
Congratulations
to all of you who attended the hearings in August and September
where we all so eloquently spoke for no more importation of waste
to
Hanford when we have not cleaned up the environmental devastation the
currently exists.
The
Department of Energy is planning a new draft of the Solid Waste
Environmental Impact Statement. It will have a 45 day comment
period starting late March.
The new draft will include comments
and responses from the first round of comments.
The Immobilized Low Activity Waste (ILAW) EIS will
be folded in. There will be
a Hanford-only waste volume section. They will address Oregon
and Washington transport impacts. They will have liners
and capping options as well as a section on why this is important to
the whole complex. Ecology and EPA seem to be pleased with the
direction. We will
let you know when dates for meetings have been decided.
Thank
you all so much and remember that you voice counts!
